Brighten Your Life with Antiques and Collectables

Antiques of the present were once everyday objects. Some were even disliked by the masses but are now considered ingenious, invaluable and a beautiful addition to any home. We ask local dealer Tom Scott’s advice for first time investors…

Buying antiques can be a financial investment, but I would always recommend investing in a piece you love over that. Go for something fabulous that you really want to look at and something decorative that enhances your room or decor and makes a statement! Notice the craftsmanship and detail and don’t be afraid to ask the dealer about its heritage: where it’s from, the age, the wood, marquetry, inlays etc.

Financially, antique furniture is often more affordable and economical that its contemporary counterparts and it certainly has more history and character and it is the ultimate in recycling!

Don’t be afraid to mix old with new either. Blending modern trends with more characterful antique pieces can make a room scheme look as though it has evolved over many years as well as adding an elegant touch.
