What is Omega-3?

Omega-3 is found mainly in oily fish including salmon, mackerel and sardines. It is also found in smaller amounts in linseeds, pecans, hazelnuts and walnuts. BUT research shows that only 5% of the population has sufficient levels in their blood, instead we have much higher levels of a different fatty acid, Omega-6

Omega-3 vs Omega-6

Omega-6, found in foods such as vegetable oils and meat, is still an essential fat but when we eat more Omega-6 than Omega-3, it can cause inflammation, which has been linked to conditions from arthritis to heart disease. The answer? Up your Omega-3 intake. 

It is now recognised that Omega-3 is good for joints, brain and heart, but there are also many other benefits including sleeping better, soothing your skin, lowering your blood pressure and boosting your memory.
